How Important is Scent to Your Mood?

How Important is Scent to Your Mood?

We know that the power of scent is awfully strong.  After all, why do you think we named our company “SCENTED Towel”?!

The effect that scent has on your mood starts in your brain (surprise, surprise!).  In fact, the olfactory parts of your brain – or, the parts that process the things you smell – are especially good at associative learning.  That’s a fancy way of saying they’re good at remembering things and associating them with other experiences later.

For example, if you had a great experience with the smell of lemons as a kid (like when Grandma made hand-squeezed lemonade or when you spent that one 4th of July feasting on homemade Lemon Meringue Pie), your brain will remember it – and conjure up all of those good feelings every time you smell lemons as an adult!

Depending on the specific feelings that are being created in your brain, certain scents can lead to a better work performance, more refreshing sleep, a longer attention span, and more relaxation.  In short, it can provide everything you need to be in a GREAT mood!

But that’s not all…

Certain scents can activate additional parts of your brain – like the ones that activate your immune system, for example.  That’s why we worked hard to create “super scents” for our scented towels.  (Want to find out exactly what each of our scents can do for you?  Just head to our Lemon, Lavender, and Peach Mango pages for more details.)

Who knew the ultimate pick-me-up could start inside your nose?!
