Why Is Paraben-Free
the Way to Be?
If you wander around here on ScentedTowel.com, you’ll see
that we brag about having paraben-free makeup remover wipes.
Why is that such a big deal? What’s so bad about parabens?
Parabens are a common preservative found in things like
shampoos, skin lotions, moisturizers, and deodorants because they stop bacteria
and fungus from growing. That way,
you can rest easy knowing that your skin care products are always going to be
fresh, no matter how long it takes you to go through the bottle!
Several studies have linked parabens to cancer (some
researchers have even found parabens in the tumors themselves!). Now, the general consensus is that
parabens can cause damage to adults’ reproductive systems (they’re said to
mimic estrogen – but with dangerous results!). There’s also proof that they can prevent babies and small
children from developing the way they’re supposed to.
Since the FDA doesn’t regulate skin care products, they
can’t forbid manufacturers from putting parabens in their products. That means you’ve got to form your own
paraben-free campaign if you want to steer clear of them! However, the tricky thing about
parabens is that their names are often disguised. So, you’ve got to scan a product’s ingredient list very
carefully and look for things like “butylparaben”, “propylparaben”, “methylparaben”,
and “ethylparaben”.
Remember, your skin is your body’s biggest organ. Anything you rub or wipe onto it is
going to make its way into your system.
(In fact, anything that you put on your skin is going to be given a free
pass into your blood stream, before your metabolic system gets a chance to
evaluate it!)
Bottom line – if you want to take the very best care of your
body, paraben-free really IS the way to be!
